Your Peppard Ward Councillors work closely with the local Police team, headed by Inspector Penny Mackenzie. Penny provides a weekly updates to us regarding all incidents in Caversham.

Penny's Team Update - 24th December 09
The The team have had an incredibly busy few days this week dealing with many snow related incidents. There were over 70 reported incidents in Caversham between the 21s - 23rd alone. Church Road / St Peter’s Road had to be closed which meant a number of people found themselves stranded. Many thanks to the Caversham Methodist Church on Highmoor Road who opened their doors to allow people to stay overnight.

“The snow may have brought misery to many but it brought joy to one Emmer Green family who welcomed baby Remy into the world. Dad Simon Ayerst was stranded in town on Monday with his three-year-old son Torsten while mum Justine Wass was at home in labour. But thanks to the emergency services and the public, both parents managed to be in the same place as their new son was born at home in Russet Glade just after 9pm, weighing 10lb. Simon managed to wave down a 4x4 fire service vehicle which took him to the hospital but Justine wasn’t there. The ambulance hadn’t even left to get to her because there were none available. ”Mr Ayerst was taken home with two midwives and a police officer who had brought in her own 4x4 vehicle after hearing the call for help on the radio system.Already at home helping Ms Wass were members of the Caversham team - PC Chris Butcher and PCSO Robert Dunford. PC Butcher said: “I was on foot so a member of the public ran me up there.” Ms Wass said: “It was really nice for everyone to come around and help and now we are looking forward to a family Christmas at home.”
