Peppard Ward in
Caversham, Berkshire
|
Roads, traffic and transport

At last, copies of the Questionnaire
regarding Phase 2 of the Local Area
Enhancement Scheme have been distributed
– and every resident of Caversham Park
Village and the immediate area should
have received one.
If anyone has not, it can be downloaded
from the following link (on RBC’s
website):
http://www.reading.gov.uk/Documents/transport_streets/UTMC/RBCN
orthAreaAccessStudy.pdf
The options are a direct reflection of
comment received on the doorstep over
the last four years. The £300,000 budget
for Phase 1 was implemented in direct
response to the preferences voiced by
respondents to the first consultation.
To ensure that the £250,000 allocated to
Phase 2 is spent in the best way for you
and your children, please take a few
moments to complete and return it to the
Freepost Address printed on the form.

Bottlebanks

Following discussions with Reading
Borough Council, plans for bottle
banks at Bramber Mews and Marchwood
Avenue and Henley Road have been
withdrawn. |
Education

A number of parents have been unable to
gain places at their Primary School of
choice this year. As Conservative
spokesman on Education, Mark is keeping
a close eye on developments.
In the meantime, Richard Willis has been
appointed as a Governor of Emmer Green
Primary School and Mark has been
appointed for a second term as a
Governor of Micklands Primary School.

50 PLUS+ Older People’s Forum

A number of Peppard Residents met Mark
Ralph at St Barnabas Hall on the morning
of 28 August to be taken by coach to the
50 PLUS+ Annual Conference and AGM at
South Reading Leisure Centre. Here, they
were able to attend a number of
Workshops, Information Stands and
Activity Sessions, including Tai Chi,
Line Dancing, Singing, Table Tennis,
Multi Sports, Aqua Aerobics, Steady
Steps and Land-Based Angling.
It is hoped that more will attend the
Active Retirement Club, located at St
Barnabas Hall every Wednesday from
10.00-12.00 as a result. Sessions
already include 45 minutes of Tai Chi to
improve balance, posture, strength and
mobility but, it will be up to the
participants to identify additional
areas of activity too. Interest has
already been shown in walks,
intergenerational activities and
gardening.
If you are not on the Age Concern
circulation list and would like to be
advised of future meetings or
participation in the Active Retirement
Club, please contact Marveta Hinds at
Age Concern Berkshire on 0118 959 4242.
It is hoped that the next 50 PLUS+
meeting can be arranged for the end of
September/beginning of October.

Policing

In the period April-July overall
reported crime in Caversham was down by
5.7%.
In Peppard Ward (down by 0.8% on the
same period last year) there has been a
spate of burglaries – up to 34 in the
period April-July, from 19 in the
equivalent period last year (+79%).
Thefts of vehicles in the period have
doubled from 3 to 6 and ‘Serious
Acquisitive Crime’ in total has
increased to 50 incidents compared to 34
last year – up 47%
As we said in the last edition of
Village Voice, it is important to remain
vigilant, closing windows and double
locking front doors when you go out, or
even into the garden. At the same time,
it is understood that a number of thefts
have taken place through letter boxes –
do not leave bags and car keys visible
from your front door.
Despite a few reports of antisocial
behaviour in the Farnham Drive area,
reports of antisocial in the Ward as a
whole are well down on last year.
As we have said previously, resources
are allocated to the local Police team
in direct relation to incidents
reported.
If you witness or experience any
incident, please report it on 0845 8 505
505 or on the Crimestoppers number: 0800
555 111. In an emergency, if a crime is
being committed, is about to be
committed or if there is a risk of
serious injury, dial 999.
