Changes
to 23/24 Bus Service - conclusion

Your
Councillors fight for an alternative
after Reading buses
withdraw service through Courtenay Drive
and Kidmore End Road
Changes to Bus Services in Emmer
Green
7th
January 2010
When Reading Buses
proposed changing the 24 bus
route to cut the anti-clockwise
route through Courtenay Drive
and Kidmore End Road, only
Cllr
Richard Willis on behalf
of all three of your
Conservative ward Councillors
objected. The change was voted
through by Lib Dem and Labour
Councillors on the Council's
Strategic Transport Programme
Board. Since the change received
Council approval your ward
Councillors have been working
with EGRA and others to try to
find an alternative service that
could be diverted to serve local
people and their need to access
Caversham centre.
Following
discussions with the Council and
Reading buses we have obtained
agreement to divert the existing
number 28 bus route to serve
Courtenay Drive and Kidmore End Road
on the anti-clockwise section. There
will also be two new stops on the 24
route in Kiln Road and Cavendish
Road. The number 28 provides a
service to Prospect Street and
Gosbrook Road in Caversham, as well
as to central Reading.
The new
arrangements with the number 28 will
begin from Monday 18th January,
subject to the agreement of the
Traffic Commissioner.
A summary of
the changed 28 route is:
From Friar Street via Station Road,
Reading Bridge, George Street,
Gosbrook Road, Prospect Street,
Peppard Road to Emmer Green Pond.
Then the bus will do a loop via Kiln
Road, Marchwood Avenue, Tower Close,
Peppard Road, Courtenay Drive,
Kidmore End Road, and back onto
Peppard Road at The Pond stop,
before returning to Reading via the
outbound route. (Stops in Reading
remain as currently, serving
Blagrave Street and Gun Street
southbound and St Mary’s Butts,
Friar Street, Station Road
northbound.)
Departures from
Courtenay Drive (top stop) will be
at 9.15, 10.55, 12.35, 2.15,
arriving at Prospect Street at 9.24,
11.04, 12.44, 2.24, and Blagrave
Street 7 minutes after that.
Residents can
continue to return from Reading and
Caversham by route 24 every 20
minutes throughout the day. Route 28
runs Monday – Friday only, (and will
run on Mondays - Fridays between
Christmas and New Year when other
buses revert to a Saturday service)

Any residents who are
elderly and unable to walk easily to
one of the remaining services would
be to contact Readibus on 0118
931 0000. They provide a booked
door to door service by agreement.
