Conservatives Oppose Closure of 137 & 138 Bus Service
in Emmer Green

Cllr Jamie Chowdhary & Cllr Mark Ralph prepare to board he 138
bus in Tower Close Emmer Green

Reading Buses have announced plans to stop the 137/138 loop via Marchwood Avenue and Kiln Road.

Cllr Richard Willis, Conservative Spokesman for Traffic & Transport asked James Freeman, Chief Executive of Reading Buses, why?

  • Customer use of the 137/138 services has been declining

  • Steps need to be taken before a loss is made

  • Numbers using the Kiln Road loop are the lowest

Cllr Mark Ralph has now asked for full consideration of subsidies, acceptable service reductions and alternative, independent operators,

Cllr Jamie Chowdhary said, “To reduce bus services when all emphasis is on
increased use of public transport is madness! To isolate our elderly residents who will be unable to visit the Post Office or return with bags of shopping is criminal.
